¿Cómo nace After the Rain?

JOSE ÍCARO: Yun y yo nos conocimos a finales de 2.011, pero no empezamos a trabajar juntos hasta casi un año después, ya que yo entonces colaboraba con un par de bandas como músico de directo. Él había puesto un anuncio en una web musical solicitando un cantante, porque había compuesto algunas demos y yo contesté a ese anuncio. A él le gustó cómo cantaba yo y a mí me gustaron mucho sus demos. Tanto, que no sólo acepté cantarlas, sino que quise aportar ideas en los arreglos, las estructuras, la producción, etc. A Yun le pareció bien que no sólo me limitara a cantar y así empezó un método de trabajo que dura hasta hoy.
Los primeros temas que terminamos, los colgamos en YouTube y diferentes redes sociales y parece que gustaron a alguna gente, puesto que empezaron a ofrecernos participar en compilados de bandas electrónicas, nos pidieron remezclas y empezaron a surgir conciertos.
En 2.015, un pequeño sello discográfico español publicó nuestro primer disco, “KINGS WITHOUT A CROWN”, y poco después Óscar Andrés se unió a la banda.

En 2.017, el sello ruso ScentAir Records publicó nuestro segundo disco, “THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CROWN”.
​
En este 2.020, Óscar ha salido de la banda y Yun y yo estamos componiendo nuevas canciones.
¿Por qué el nombre de AFTER THE RAIN?
YUN DÍAZ: Lo tomamos de la canción de John Foxx “Europe After the Rain”. Nos pareció muy sugerente y positivo. Después de la lluvia, vuelve a salir el sol y los pájaros vuelven a cantar...

¿Cuáles son vuestras influencias tanto internacionales como nacionales?
YUN DÍAZ::Nuestro sonido se nutre principalmente del pop electrónico internacional de los 80 y la primera mitad de los 90. Gente como Depeche Mode, Ultravox, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, De/Vision, Mesh, Apoptygma Berzerk... Pero también nos gusta mucho el pop-rock oscuro y guitarrero de gente como The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy o incluso Paradise Lost.
JOSE ÍCARO: A Yun no le gusta mucho la música española y, por lo tanto, nos influye mucho menos. Héroes del Silencio y poco más. Yo soy un gran seguidor de grupos como Mecano, La Dama se Esconde o Azul y Negro.

¿Cómo es vuestro proceso creativo al producir vuestra música?
JOSE ÍCARO: La mayoría de las canciones las compone Yun. Él hace una demo, a veces más sencilla y a veces más elaborada, y después me la entrega a mí. Yo estudio la canción y aporto lo que me sugiere el tema, quitando o poniendo cosas. Entre los dos hacemos todo el trabajo de grabación, producción y mezcla y... canción terminada.
¿Qué hardware y software os gusta emplear?

YUN DÍAZ: Respecto al software, trabajamos con dos secuenciadores: FL STUDIO, que es donde hacemos toda la programación utilizando multitud de VST, y PROTOOLS, que es donde volcamos toda la programación una vez terminada y donde grabamos todos los instrumentos reales (voces, sintetizadores, guitarras y bajos).

JOSE ÍCARO: En cuanto al hardware, para las voces utilizamos un micrófono de condensador AKG.
Los sintetizadores que más usamos son: KORG Micro X, YAMAHA AN1X, KORG N364 y KORG 01 W/FD.
Las guitarras suelen ser GRETSCH y YAMAHA.
Y el bajo es un FENDER Squier.

¿Tenéis alguna inspiración literaria?
​
YUN DÍAZ: Más que inspiración literaria, nos influyen los grandes escritores de canciones como John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Martin Gore o Robert Smith.

¿Qué planes tenéis en un futuro?
​
YUN DÍAZ: No pensamos mucho en el futuro y nos gusta vivir el día a día y más en los tiempos que corren. Queremos seguir componiendo, ya que estamos en un momento creativo muy bueno y que esas canciones formen parte de nuestro tercer disco. Aunque, con lo lentos que somos, no nos marcamos ninguna fecha para su publicación.

JOSE ÍCARO: También nos gustaría volver a hacer conciertos, ya que hace un par de años que no actuamos en directo. Pero para ello tiene que pasar primero toda esta pandemia, lo cual no va a ser fácil. Así que, tiempo al tiempo...
Interview with After the Rain (Spain)
How was After the Rain born?
JOSE ÍCARO: Yun and I met at the end of 2011, but we didn't start working together until almost a year later, since I was then collaborating with a couple of bands as a live musician. He had placed an ad on a music website requesting a singer, because he had composed some demos and I answered that ad. He liked the way I sang and I really liked his demos. So much so that I not only agreed to sing them, but also wanted to contribute ideas in the arrangements, structures, production, etc. Yun found it good that he not only limited me to singing and thus began a working method that lasts until today.

The first songs that we finished, we posted them on YouTube and different social networks and it seems that some people liked them, since they began to offer us to participate in compilations of electronic bands, they asked us for remixes and concerts began to appear.
​
In 2015, a small Spanish record label released our first album, “KINGS WITHOUT A CROWN”, and shortly after Óscar Andrés joined the band.
In 2.017, the Russian label ScentAir Records released our second album, “THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CROWN”.
In this 2.020, Óscar has left the band and Yun and I are composing new songs.

Why the name Afther the Rain?
YUN DÍAZ: We took it from John Foxxs song “Europe After the Rain”. We found it very suggestive and positive. After the rain, the sun rises again and the birds sing again ...

What are your influences, both international and national?
​
YUN DÍAZ: Our sound is mainly nourished by international electronic pop from the 80s and the first half of the 90s. People like Depeche Mode, Ultravox, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, De / Vision, Mesh, Apoptygma Berzerk ... But We also really like the dark pop-rock and guitar playing of people like The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy or even Paradise Lost.

JOSE ÍCARO: Yun does not like Spanish music very much and, therefore, it influences us much less. Héroes del Silencio and little else. I am a big fan of groups like Mecano, La Dama se Esconde or Azul y Negro.

How is your creative process when producing your music?
JOSE ÍCARO: Most of the songs are composed by Yun. He makes a demo, sometimes simpler and sometimes more elaborate, and then hands it to me. I study the song and contribute what the theme suggests to me, removing or adding things. Between the two of us we do all the recording, production and mixing work and ... song finished.

What hardware and software do you like to use?
​
YUN DÍAZ: Regarding the software, we work with two sequencers: FL STUDIO, which is where we do all the programming using a multitude of VSTs, and PROTOOLS, which is where we dump all the programming once it is finished and where we record all the real instruments (voices, synthesizers, guitars and basses).

JOSE ÍCARO: As for the hardware, for the vocals we used an AKG condenser microphone.
The synthesizers we use the most are: KORG Micro X, YAMAHA AN1X, KORG N364 and KORG 01 W / FD.
The guitars are usually GRETSCH and YAMAHA.
And the bass is a FENDER Squier.

Do you have any literary inspiration?
​
YUN DÍAZ: More than literary inspiration, we are influenced by the great songwriters such as John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Martin Gore or Robert Smith.

What plans do you have in the future?
​
YUN DÍAZ: We don't think much about the future and we like to live from day to day and more in these times. We want to continue composing, since we are in a very good creative moment and that those songs are part of our third album. Although, as slow as we are, we do not set a date for its publication.

JOSE ÍCARO: We would also like to do concerts again, since we haven't performed live for a couple of years. But for this, this entire pandemic has to happen first, which is not going to be easy. So, time to time ...
